Transitional SUB
We are delighted to present a rare and historically significant Rolex Submariner Date with the reference number 168000 – one of the most interesting transitional references in the history of the Submariner.
The reference 168000 was only produced from around mid-1987 to 1988 and represents the link between the 16800 and the later 16610. The key difference lies in the new, more corrosion-resistant 904L steel, which was used here for the first time by Rolex – a technological step that would later become standard on all models. The 168000 thus marks the beginning of a new era in material processing at Rolex.
Our watch is in very good original condition. There are slight signs of wear, as is usual for a well-maintained but worn watch. The Oyster bracelet shows slight stretch, and the clasp code L10 corresponds correctly to the production period. The matching date disc with the characteristic open 6 and 9 is installed. The original bezel insert is also present.
The original matte tritium dial is in excellent condition. The luminous material shows a slight vanilla-colored patina, which gives the watch a warm vintage look. The tritium hands are perfectly color-coordinated with the dial and create a harmonious, authentic overall appearance.
The delivery includes the original box, papers (LC039), and booklets—a complete set. It is particularly noteworthy that the watch was not sold by a jeweler but directly by Rolex.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a piece of Rolex history.
The watch has been fully checked by our workshop and comes with a 1-year guarantee.
